Capacitive Touch Panel
Touch-panel are used nearly everywhere nowadays, especially in HMI.
But a touch-panel is not similar to a touch-panel: Overall there are two different technologies: On the one hand there is the capacitive touch-panel on the other hand there is the resistive touch-panel.
A capacitive touch-panel is responsive to a changing charge by touch. Because of that it is possible to detect two different points of contact. The two points can used for e.g. a zoom-function or something like that. The capacitive technology contains big disadvantages, too:
If the worker is wearing gloves or just has dry hands, the capacitive touch-panel is not working. Don't forget that you can't either use a simple pen. Humidity is a big problem too, the touch-panel sometimes reacts on ghost contacts because of water-drops.
